In Ayurvedic scriptures it is said that nature, is a primary force of life, it is composed of three qualities or principles called Gunas.
The three Gunas or qualities are Sattva (balance, gentleness, purity, clarity) Rajas (anger, restlessness, anxiety) and Tamas (laziness, sloth, ignorance).
Today I will be covering the topic Sattva
What is Sattva?
This word means essence, and represent peacefulness and refinement. It is the illuminating force or uplifting energy.
What is Sattvic food?
The food which does not disturb the body elements and helps to bring out the state of being calm, peaceful and spiritual.
What are Sattvic foods?
Milk and it’s products.
Veggies such as spinach, carrots, celery (अजवाइन), potatoes, lettuce, peas, cauliflower, etc.
Nuts and seeds such as walnuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds (कद्दू के बीज), sunflower seeds (सूरजमुखी के बीज), sesame seeds(तिल के बीज), coconut, flax seeds(अलसी), etc.
Oils and fats such as ghee (clarified butter), olive oil(जैतून का तेल), sesame oil, flax oil, etc.
Beverages such as water, fresh fruit juice, noncaffeinated herbal tea.
Spices and Herbs such as coriander, nutmeg, cumin, fenugreek, turmeric, ginger, etc.
Sweeteners such as honey and jaggery.
The Bhagavad-gita describes the sattvic food as promoting lifespan, virtue, strength, well-being and satisfaction.
Lord Vishnu, the preserver, exemplifies the Sattvic temperament.
