In Ayurvedic scriptures it is said that nature, is a primary force of life, it is composed of three qualities or principles called Gunas.
The three Gunas or qualities are Sattva (balance, gentleness, purity, clarity) Rajas (anger, restlessness, anxiety) and Tamas (laziness, sloth, ignorance).
The 3rd and the last topic is Tamas.
What is Tamas?
The word means darkness, ignorance and illusion
It represents mental dullness, inertia, laziness.
What is Tamasic food?
The food which may cause harm to the physical and mental well-being of a person.
The nature of the food is heavy, dull and depressing.
What are Tamasic foods?
Veggies such as garlic, onion, mushrooms.
Fruits such as apricots, avocado, watermelon.
Grains such as brown rice, wheat.
Beans such as pinto beans, urad dal.
Meat such as beef, lamb, pork, sausage and bacon.
Beverages such as strong liquor i.e gin, vodka, whisky, rum, scotch, etc.
Lord Shiva, the destroyer, exemplifies the Tamasic nature.
